The New Left Network

Discussions for humyn advancement

What is the new left to you? Statist? Anarcho-syndicalist? anything else?
I would like to know what you consider to be the best way to bring a radical, new and workable left wing perspective to the modern political spectrum and what it would consist of.

Well, I don't have a lot of time to answer this indepthly. But to me it really has no pure meaning and that is what is important to it. If we were to decide together on some general principles then I would be ok with letting those slide as what the 'new left' is. But otherwise, I can only posit some possible axioms that I think and would like to argue, should be important elements of the 'new left.'

As I said, I currently have little time to reply, but would really like to see discussion begin here. So for the sake of debate, I would say that there needs to be a sincere democratic element to the 'New Left.' Focusing on delegation and consensual discussion. Also I think corporations should be considered syndicates of people and never have a true identity otherwise.

I would also like to say that participatory economics wherein economic decisions on every level are included in discussions of all people, be it in their building, ward, or beyond. This, I think is something that in America is forgotten, the fact that economic decisions are made every day that support specific perspectives.

And I have to leave off with those thoughts. what about yourself?

I agree that engagement is really the most vital facilitation of our work. Engagement in the sense that when engaged one is interacting, communicating, and responding to feedback (also possible in terms of organizations and media, though with its own set of caveats). This is a difficult thing made testament by the fading of anarchist and true libertarian thought in the states here (in my experience, at least). This slow eradication of thought is made possible not by specific censorship and suppression (though this is present indeed) but rather by a constant move towards centrism. By centrism, I mean a move towards non-political involvement, a construed sense of individual rights that suppresses localism, and governmental and corporate bodies attempting to increase the fluidity of capital through entertainment, "edutainment," and through the extension of religious fervor through nationalism and diametric statements.

I would love to go in-depth into these trends that are extenuated by capitalism, a terribly flawed government and the theory that backs them up (neo-liberalism, neo-conservativism and the worst of the bunch, "realism"), and many other faceted trends that have become viral attachments to the very heart and soul of individuals and communities. But I think going indepth should be for another thread on this forum :) but also because i've just worn myself out with wordiness and i feel bad :P

im also tired...so sorry all!
